FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bitcoin District?

Bitcoin District is a vibrant community of Bitcoin enthusiasts in the Washington DC metro area. We organize regular meetups, events, and educational gatherings to bring together people interested in Bitcoin—from complete beginners to experts. Our goal is to foster learning, networking, and genuine connections across community.

Why Bitcoin only? Why not include other coins?

Bitcoin District focuses solely on Bitcoin to promote its unique decentralized, secure, and censorship-resistant properties. We believe Bitcoin’s distinct philosophy and technology set it apart, and our community is dedicated to exploring and advancing its potential without the distraction of other cryptocurrencies.

Is Bitcoin District only for technical people or Bitcoin experts?

Not at all! Bitcoin District welcomes people at every level of Bitcoin knowledge. Whether you're just curious about Bitcoin or an experienced developer, there's a place for you in our community.

Do I need to own Bitcoin to participate?

No, you don't need to own any Bitcoin to join our events or community. Bitcoin District is about education, learning, and community building first and foremost. Many people attend our meetups specifically to learn about Bitcoin. We're here to provide information and support, not to pressure anyone into buying anything.

Are Bitcoin District events free to attend?

Most Bitcoin District events are free to attend. Our regular meetups, book club sessions, and educational events don't charge admission fees. Occasionally, we might have special events with costs (like dinners or speaking events with refreshments), but we always try to keep things accessible.

How often do you meet and where can I find upcoming events?

Bitcoin District hosts events regularly throughout the month, including monthly book club meetings, technical BitDevs sessions, and various social meetups. The frequency and types of events can vary based on community interest and organizer availability. You can find our upcoming events on our website's meetups page, and we also announce events through our community channels and social media.

Is Bitcoin District a business? What about a coworking space?

Bitcoin District is a community, not a business, a nonprofit, a foundation or a coworking space. We want every individual Bitcoiner and business building on Bitcoin to feel like they are part of the Bitcoin District community.

Is Bitcoin District trying to sell me something or promote specific Bitcoin services?

Bitcoin District is all about bringing together individuals, organizations, and businesses to explore Bitcoin through education, networking, and advocacy. We’re a community, not a business, so our goal isn’t to sell you anything or push specific Bitcoin services, exchanges, or investments. That said, businesses are a valued part of our community—they might sponsor events, share insights through speakers, or offer their own products and services. That’s totally fine! We’re here to foster learning and connection, and we warmly welcome everyone—businesses included—who wants to join us in that mission.
